On May 22, 2023, held a scientific seminar dedicated to the 95th anniversary of Professor Agasalim Alasgarov, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Doctor of Economic Sciences, at the Institute of Economics of the Ministry of Science and Education. The event chaired by the director general of the institute, D.Sc., professor Nazim Muzaffarli, and was attended online by a number of employees of higher education institutions
Speakers at the seminar - prof. Nazim Muzaffarli, rector of Baku Business University, prof. Ibad Abbasov, corresponding member of ANAS, prof. Shahbaz Muradov, prof. Isa Aliyev and others talked about Agasalim Alasgarov, whose birthday
was on May 22, his scientific-pedagogical activities, his life, the period when they worked together for many years, shared their memories about him and characterized him as an outstanding economist who had his own set of ideas in the development of the economic science of Azerbaijan.
At the seminar, the head of the Department Regulation of Foreign Economic Activity of the Institute, professor Fuad Ganbarov, made a presentation on "Azerbaijan's foreign trade relations: modern trends and opportunities". The speaker made a speech on Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover, structure of exports, measures and incentive mechanisms implemented by the government to increase exports, non-oil GDP and exports, main indicators of non-oil exports, competitiveness and diversification of export, imports and its structure, talked about main development trends in foreign trade and the problems, analyzed the real situation and noted his suggestions. Then the questions were answered and held scientific discussions on the topic.
Family members of Agasalim Alasgarov also participated in the seminar and expressed their gratitude for the attention shown to them.
A. Alasgarov was born on May 22, 1928 in Baku. In 1946-50s, he studied at the Azerbaijan State Institute of National Economy named after K. Marx. In 1953-54s, he continued his studies at Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. In 1958, for the first time in the USSR, he defended his doctoral theses on the topic "The cost of cotton and ways to reduce it", in 1968 he defended his doctoral theses on the topic "Specialization of agriculture and its economic effectiveness", and in 1969 he was awarded with the title of professor.
In 1974-1978s, he worked as a vice-rector for scientific affairs and was a head of department "Political Economy" at the Institute of National Economy named after D. Bunyadzade, and in 1989-1998s, he worked as a director of the Institute of Economics of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences. In 1989, he was elected a corresponding member of ANAS. Under the scientific guidance and supervision of A. Alasgarov prepared 78 doctors of science and Ph.D. students, also an author of more than two hundred scientific works. Scientist was died on March 31, 2015, at the age of 87 (economics.com.az).
