On April 14, 2023, a ceremonial meeting held on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the Institute of Economics. In the Institute of Economics, founded on April 14, 1958, date of “April 14” is celebrated as "Institute Day" every year
At the event, participated representatives of economic-oriented state institutions, including the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Science and Education, State Statistics Committee, Ministry of Agriculture, Analysis and Communication Center of Economic Reforms, directors of several ANAS institutes, rectors and heads of departments of universities, deputies, and employees of the Institute of Economics.
The general director of the Institute of Economics of the Ministry of Science and Education, professor Nazim Muzaffarli, who started the event with his opening speech, spoke about the history of the establishment of the Institute, its honorable development path, its contributions to the economic science of Azerbaijan and the country's economy, and conducted fundamental researches. He said that during the years of independence, the Institute of Economics carried out successful and significant scientific-research works in the direction of formation and development of the independent national economy of Azerbaijan, and provided important services in the training of professional national personnel too. Being a fundamental science center in Azerbaijan, it has produced a generation of well-known economists in the country.
Prof. N. Muzaffarli noted that the Institute closely cooperates with the relevant state institutions regarding the implementation of state programs approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and decisions of the Cabinet of Ministers, fulfills their orders and conducts joint researches. In addition, joint projects are being implemented with the country's leading universities for the purpose of integrating science and education. Employees of the Institute are represented as experts in more than 10 economic working groups of government institutions. Research in the field of building a new economy in Karabakh conducted by the Institute is highly appreciated by the state. The Institute of Economics is determined to continue its mission as the flagship of Azerbaijani economic science.
Then, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary, the general director presented "Honorary diplomas" to 11 employees of the Institute who are over 70 years old for their long-term scientific activities, also each employee of the Institute was given a cash prize of 65 manats.
Corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Shahbaz Muradov, Academician Ziyad Samadzade, Chairman of the Chamber of Auditors Vahid Novruzov, Advisor to the Minister of Science and Education Nijat Mammadli, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Fuad Huseynov, Professor Shafa Aliyev of Sumgayit State University, Azerbaijan at the meeting Mehabbat Mammadov, head of the department of the University of Architecture and Construction, spoke about the role, position and importance of the Institute of Economics in the development of economic science in Azerbaijan. The speakers highly appreciated the activities of the Institute and wished the team greater success in the field of future scientific research works.
It should be noted that the main activities of the Institute are the fundamental research of socio-economic development problems of the independent national economy of Azerbaijan, macroeconomic and regional development problems. At the Institute of Economics, which is one of the main centers of fundamental and applied economic research in Azerbaijan, research is currently being conducted on "Directions for the realization of national priorities of socio-economic development in Azerbaijan in the medium and long term (2022-2025 years)". The Institute bases its research on the goals and objectives set by state programs, strategies and concepts. The direction of scientific research currently carried out by the Institute is determined in accordance with "Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities for socio-economic development" approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as "ANAS Development Program for 2020-2025".
4 rating studies based on inter-country and inter-regional comparisons were conducted by the employees of the Institute of Economics. These ratings were prepared based on the methodology proposed by the Institute. The results can be used during making practical management decisions, drawing up socio-economic development programs, and allocating additional state funds for the development of regions.
More than 150 monographs, 3,000 scientific articles, including nearly 800 works, have been published abroad by the employees related to the results of scientific research conducted at the Institute in the last 20 years.
Only in 2022, 268 works by the employees of the Institute, including 14 monographs, 5 textbooks and mass scientific publications, 140 scientific articles, more than 100 theses, 19 in journals included in international scientific databases (Web of Science, SCOPUS, etc.) including articles, 44 works were published abroad. During the year, about 50 employees of the Institute participated in 15 scientific conferences. The institute's scientific magazine "Economic growth and public welfare" is published.
In the near future, our strategic goals are to turn the Institute into a real center of fundamental economic research in Azerbaijan, the main coordinator of economic research, a collegial expert and consultant of the government (economics.com.az).
