On April 11, 2023, Baku Business University (BBU) hosted an international scientific-practical conference dedicated to the great 100th anniversary of Natio nal Leader Heydar Aliyev on the topic "Goals of sustainable development in higher education"
The purpose of the conference is to integrate the sustainable development goals adopted by the UN into the activities of higher education institutions and to study the European experience in this way. Officials of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Executive Power of Yasamal District, members of the Milli Majlis, well-known economists of our republic, rectors and vice-rectors of Azerbaijan's higher educational institutions, as well as officials of the leading universities of 5 European countries - Sweden, Portugal, Spain, Estonia and Poland - attended the conference.
Speaking at the conference, the director general of the Institute of Economics of the Ministry of Science and Education, professor Nazim Muzaffarli spoke about sustainability in education and approaches to this issue in international practice, defining the main goals of sustainable development in higher education and our main goals, the sustainability of our education system as a whole and ways to achieve it, the modern state of education in the country, icluding talked about the situation and the implemented reforms. He noted that the main task of education is to educate patriotic citizens along with teaching knowledge and skills. It was the patriotic youth trained by our education system who freed Karabakh lands from occupation during the 44-day Patriotic War under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
N. Muzaffarli, who spoke about the heroism of our youth in the Patriotic War, the great restoration and construction works carried out in our territories liberated from occupation, including the problems of education, emphasized that he is optimistic about the future development prospects of Azerbaijani education, which has great experience and potential.
The Rector of BBU, Professor Ibad Abbasov, Deputy Head of Executive Power of Yasamal District Taravat Muradova, Nijat Mammadli an Advisor of the Minister of Science and Education, Academician Ziyad Samadzade, Program Coordinator of the Royal Institute of Technology of Sweden Viktor Kordash, Ana Agante Lucas from the University of Lisbon, Portugal, and Polytechnic University of Catalonia attended the event. Antonio Florencio Calderon, Artyom Boyarchuk from Estonia's Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), Marek Bogusz from Poland's WSG University of Economics spoke, and shared their practical experience on the topic, and held extensive discussions (economics.com.az).
