On January 23, 2023, held the next online scientific seminar at the Institute of Economics. The event chaired by the director general of the institute, D.Sc., professor Nazim Muzaffarli (Imanov), attended by a number of employees of higher education institutions
At the seminar, the leading researcher of the department "Innovative economy and digital transformation" of the Institute of Economics, Ph.D., associate professor Emin Mammadzade made a presentation on the topic "Eurasian Economic Union and the economic interests of Azerbaijan: realities and prospects". The speaker took a broad look at the history of the Eurasian Economic Union and its activity in the past period as a whole, and made analyzes and assessments.
Researcher E. Mammadzade, who gave attention to the strengths and weaknesses of Azerbaijan's possible membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, believes that under the current conditions, our country's joining this organization does not meet our economic interests. Because the Eurasian Economic Union organization is based more on political interests than the interests of mutually beneficial economic cooperation, and the situation in the countries included in this union, including Russia, is not good at all due to the war with Ukraine and sanctions. It is a more correct and useful strategy for Azerbaijan to implement an independent economic policy that meets its interests, to expand cooperation with other international and regional institutions, especially economic partnership and trade relations with the Turkish states, which have been increasing in recent years. Current realities and future perspectives dictate this too (economics.com.az).
