On December 10, 2021, online with the "Zoom" program held the next meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Economics of ANAS. The final annual report on the plan of scientific research carried out by the Institute of Economics in 2021 was heard at the online event chaired by the General Director of the Institute, Doctor of Economics, Professor Nazim Muzaffarli (Imanov). Presenting the final annual report, Deputy Executive Director of the Institute, Ph.D. in Economics, Associate Professor Allahyar Muradov said that in 2021, studies have been conducted at the Institute of Economics of ANAS on "Socio-economic development of Azerbaijan and further improvement of its position in international comparative rankings" (2019-2021). The research took into account the proposals received from 20 government agencies - 11 ministries and 9 state committees and agencies. A total of 24 research groups on 27 indices were established at the institute, and the research direction of the employees was taken as a basis. As a result of research conducted by the Institute on 22 international ratings, 5 books have been published (Network Readiness Index, Global Competitiveness Index, Business Environment Report, Economic Freedom Index and Service Area Rating), and 14 more books are planned to be published.
Research was also conducted on 5 ratings prepared by the institute itself. These are IL(R)E - 2019: Opportunities to choose the economic development strategy, index of quality of life of economic regions, cities and administrative districts of Azerbaijan, Index of economic development and diversification of economic regions, cities and administrative districts of Azerbaijan, Economic regions of Azerbaijan, republic Index of socio-economic development of subordinate cities and administrative districts and Index of realization of economic potential of economic regions, subordinate cities and administrative districts of the republic in Azerbaijan.
A.Muradov noted that the index of economic development and diversification of Azerbaijani regions was developed for the first time as a result of research on the socio-economic development of economic and administrative regions of Azerbaijan and the ratings of the effectiveness of economic potential in economic and administrative regions of Azerbaijan. This study was conducted to assess the level of economic development and diversification in the economic regions, subordinate cities and administrative regions of Azerbaijan. The assessment was conducted on the basis of a methodology developed by the authors (prof. N. Muzaffarli and assoc.prof., A. Muradov). A rating has been developed, which assumes great practical importance and allows for inter-regional comparisons. Although the research is conducted by regions of Azerbaijan, the proposed approach is in principle, universal and allows for inter-regional assessments in other countries.
The book "Demographic development of Azerbaijan: historical changes, new trends, problems (1828-2020)" was published on the basis of researches conducted by corresponding member of ANAS, D.Sc., professor Shahbaz Muradov. For the first time in the monograph, based on rich historical, official statistical and scientific sources, a comprehensive study of changes in demographic processes and urbanization over a period of about 280 years (1828-2020) was conducted involving various political structures. The research examines and evaluates the factors influencing demographic changes, identifies priority areas for the country's demographic development in the near and distant future, and provides scientifically sound suggestions and recommendations for their regulation.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva met with representatives of the public of Fuzuli region on October 17 of this year.
The Institute of Economics of ANAS closely cooperates with government agencies and implements joint projects. The Institute of Economics of ANAS is represented at the expert level in 8 out of 18 working groups established under the Cabinet of Ministers to implement the Order of the President of Azerbaijan on improving the position of our country in international rankings.
A.Muradov said that the Institute of Economics conducts serious scientific research on the future economy of liberated Karabakh, provides scientific support to state and government agencies in this area. Thus, by the order of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan together with ADA University the projects "Preparation of proposals on forecasting and effective organization of repatriation to post-conflict areas of Azerbaijan" and "Assessment of economic potential of post-conflict areas and identification of comparative advantages" are implemented. The head of these projects is the General Director of the Institute of Economics, Professor Nazim Muzaffarli. Also, in June of this year, with the financial support of the International Bank of Azerbaijan, trainings on "Rehabilitation of post-conflict areas: business opportunities" were organized for a group of businessmen in Shamakhi. In October, held a "round table" on "Enlightenment support for Karabakh entrepreneurs: the road from Tartar" in the Tartar region. Employees of the institute wrote scientific articles on Karabakh, published articles in the press, made more than 70 speeches on television.
In 2021, the Institute held 28 scientific seminars covering various topical economic issues. During the year, the staff of the Institute participated in more than 10 international conferences and forums, near 15 national video conferences in online format.
Along with scientific research, the Institute of Economics is closely involved in the training of highly qualified scientists. At present, 82 doctoral students and Ph.D. students, 3 masters are studying at the Institute. 20 of them are preparing for doctoral studies, 62 - for Ph.D. studies. This year, three department heads of the Institute defended their doctoral dissertations, three more employees defended their Ph.D. dissertations, and 7 works are ready for the defense.
In 2021, a total of 257 works of the staff of the Institute of Economics, including more than 50 articles were published abroad. 11 of them are books and monographs. 12 articles included in the SCOPUS and Web of Science database. This year, 488 copies of literature were included in the book fund of the institute.
The activities of the Institute of Economics in 2021 has been widely covered in the media. More than 250 reports on the direct activities of the institute have been prepared and posted on the economics.com.az website. The number of views of the site from 128 countries is 720 thousand. The site is followed by readers in countries as Russia (6.4% of revenues), the United States (6.1% of revenues), the European Union (1.9%), Turkey (1.2%), Ukraine (0.9%), Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Spain, China, Georgia, Iran, Belarus and etc. countries. 115 videos were posted on the Institute's YouTube channel in 2019, including 62 videos in 2021. These videos cover the interviews of scientists of the Institute of Economics to well-known and leading television channels of our country, and their participation in programs as experts. During the year, more than 300 reports on the activities of the Institute were published in various Mass Media.
Members of the Scientific Council - corresponding member of ANAS, prof. Gorkhmaz Imanov, professors - Tarbiz Aliyev, Akif Musayev, Tofig Huseynov, associate professors - Mayis Gulaliyev, Rasmiyya Abdullayeva, Mahir Zeynalov and others made a speech. Then the annual report submitted by open voting and the activity of the Institute for 2021 were assessed as satisfactory.
In the end, prof. Nazim Muzaffarli commented on the annual report, the implemented works, the raised issues, research on building a new economy in Karabakh, close cooperation with government and state agencies, joint projects, as well as the main goals and objectives of the Institute (economics.com.az).
