On January 17, 2020, held an event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the 20 January tragedy at the Institute of Economics of ANAS. First, commemorated with a minute's silence the memory of martyrs who died during the night of 19-20 January, 1990, at the result of the Soviet army's massacre in Azerbaijan
The director of the Institute, Professor Nazim Muzaffarli, noted that the names of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for independence, sovereignty and freedom of Azerbaijan are etched forever in our history and in our blood memory and “20 January is a heroic story of our nation, no matter how it is so sad, but we should be proud of it.
Other speakers - Tanriverdi Pasha, Chairman of Trade Union, Prof. Terbiz Aliyev, D.Sc., Agadadash Gafarov and others talked about the tragedies of 20 January, the heroism of our people at that time, the freedom movement of the people, and our independence means the historical achievement of our nation.
They also spoke about the socio-political processes of that time, the events they witnessed on 20 January, the causes of the tragedy, the people's movement, the struggle for freedom and the selflessness of the people. They noted that the names of the martyrs of 20 January were forever embedded in our history, and they will always be remembered (economics.com.az).
