In 2014 the Institute has completed the first stage of the research on "Social and economic problems of sustainable development of the Azerbaijan Republic", which is provided for 2014-2016 and covers 4 problems (12 topics).
The staff has published 258 scientific works (4 books, 254 papers), including 94 academic papers abroad (8 of them in journals with impact factor). 80 researches of the Institute (4 of them abroad) participated in various forums, conferences, seminars and symposia. The Institute conducted two commemorative conferences in 2014.
The Institute is directly involved in the implementation of the Development Concept "Azerbaijan 2020: Look into the Future", as well as a number of other important state programs on food provision, poverty reduction and sustainable development, the development of science, the implementation of employment policies, socio-economic development of regions and the development of official statistics in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Starting 2014, the Institute has been conducting special research on the Index of Leftness (Rightness) of the Economy – IL(R)E. This Index is the constituent part of the annual reports on comprehensive analysis of the level of the state regulation of economy in different countries – at this stage in Eastern European and Central Asian states, as well as in some developed countries (37 countries in total). For each country IL(R)E is calculated using seven sub-indexes, and each of them, in turn, is calculated based on several indices. It’s planned for the nearest future to widen the list of analyzed economies and to implement specific projects to present these reports to the international experts’ community.
In 2014 there were created several "platforms" for intellectual discussions, as a "Creative Economy" Debates Club", “Doctoral Candidates Club " and "Club of Young Scientists". In these clubs, as well as at the Scientific Council of the Institute the country's well-known economists deliver presentations on the most urgent theoretical and applied problems of the economy.
In 2014, the Dissertation council, operating under the Institute, was reorganized and acquired the right to award the degree of "Doctor of Science". Rules of registration of theses and abstracts were improved. Also, in order to improve the quality of these procedures, the new "Procedure for the preliminary examination of theses" and "Procedure for scientific seminars" were approved. These documents have been welcomed by the top management of ANAS and recommended for use in other institutions of the Academy.
The researches on “The Sustainable Development Program of Sheki-Zagatala Economic Region in 2014-2020" and "Non-Oil Industry Development Program in the Republic of Azerbaijan" were completed in 2014. The project "Recommendations for the Improvement of the pensioners’ living standards by use of private pension funds" were also developed and submitted to the Ministry of Economy and Industry.
