The book "Common Personal Names in Turkic Languages," by Tanriverdi Pasha—a leading researcher at the Institute of Economics under the Ministry of Science and Education—was discussed during a meeting of the Personal Names Commission at the Nasimi Institute of Linguistics of ANAS.
Professor Nadir Mammadli, Director of the Institute of Linguistics and Chairman of the Commission on Personal Names, made a speech on the issues of the correct spelling and selection of personal names. The professor noted that personal names reflect the language, history, and national-cultural memory of the people. In the modern period, the capabilities of artificial intelligence should be utilized correctly and purposefully regarding the spelling of personal names. The scholar noted the importance of considering phonetic variations when selecting and spelling names.
One of the book's notable features is that, alongside the origins and etymology of personal names, it also indicates their geographical distribution. Scholars speaking at the event noted that this dictionary represents a novel approach. It was observed that conducting comparisons across all Turkic languages in the work would be particularly appropriate. The functional characteristics of male and female names have also been taken into account in the book.
During the meeting, views were exchanged regarding the book's scientific significance, the determination of the etymology of personal names, and their historical and geographical distribution patterns; suggestions and recommendations were also offered to the author.
In conclusion, Rashida Manafova, Head of the Registration Department of the Ministry of Justice, spoke and emphasized the importance of citizens taking national-moral values and linguistic norms into account when choosing names (economics.org.az).
