On February 26, 2026, held a commemorative event dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide at the Institute of Economics of the Ministry of Science and Education
First, the dear memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide and all our martyrs who gave their lives for the Motherland was commemorated with a minute of silence.
At the meeting chaired by the Director General of the Institute of Economics, Professor Nazim Muzaffarli, corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Shahbaz Muradov, leading researcher Tanriverdi Pasha and other speakers noted that the Khojaly genocide was the most terrible tragedy in our history, and that peaceful and unarmed people were deliberately killed with particular cruelty.
It was noted that 613 people, including 106 women, 63 children and 70 elderly people, were brutally killed, 8 families were completely destroyed, 25 children lost both parents, and 130 children lost one of their parents. That night, 1,275 civilians were taken prisoner, the fate of 150 of them is still unknown. Therefore, the Khojaly tragedy should be considered one of the most terrible genocides of humanity. Historically, the tragedies that Armenians have inflicted on our people, their periodic occupation of our historical lands, should never be forgotten, and conclusions should be drawn from it.
The victims of Khojaly, all our martyrs, have been avenged, our occupied lands have been liberated, our territorial integrity and sovereignty have been restored. Today, Karabakh is being revived, the economy and social life are being rebuilt, resettlement is underway, and people live in peaceful conditions. Currently, the city of Khojaly and 7 villages of the district are being rebuilt, and roads, energy and utility systems are being modernized within the framework of infrastructure projects. More than 4 thousand residents have already settled in the Khojaly district. We will live forever in our ancestral lands, including Khojaly (economics.org.az).
