On January 19, 2026, the Scientific Council of the Institute of Economics under the Ministry of Science and Education held its first meeting of the new year. The meeting was chaired by Director General, Professor Nazim Muzaffarli, and covered a range of important issues
By the decision of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Prof. N. Muzaffarli expressed his congratulations to the Head of Department of the Institute and Associate Professor Allahyar Muradov on the conferment of the academic degree of Doctor of Economic Sciences, and to senior scientific researcher Sabina Asadova on the conferment of the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Economics, diplomas were presented to the recipients.
Then, Director General informed the Scientific Council about Doctor of Philosophy and Associate Professor Famil Rustamov, who was appointed Executive Director of the Institute of Economics by an order of Emin Amrullayev the Minister of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The members of the Scientific Council welcomed the appointment and wished best success to the Executive Director.
At the meeting of the Scientific Council, were held extensive discussions on the identification of the scientific research themes of the Institute of Economics for the 2026–2027s. By the decision of the Scientific Council, a two-year research project on “Directions of Structural Transformation of the Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan” was approved.
During the meeting, based on a presentation by the Head of Department Education of the Institute, PhD in Economics Ellada Khankishiyeva, the individual work plans of Ph.D candidates were reviewed and approved (economics.org.az).
