A commemorative event dedicated to the 36th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy was held at the Institute of Economics of the Ministry of Science and Education
The event chaired by the general manager of the institute, Shakir Aliyev, speakers were leading scientific researcher Tanriverdi Pasha, professor Tofig Huseynov, doctor of economic sciences Sevda Mikayilova, associate professor Mahir Zeynalov, young researchers Melek Aliyeva, Javanshir Burhanzadeh and others. They spoke about the massacre carried out by the Soviet army in Azerbaijan on the night of January 19-20, 1990, the realities of that time, socio-political events, the unity of the people and their determination to fight for their rights. Also, the speakers, remembering the events they witnessed during the January 20 tragedy, noted the national liberation movement, heroism, bravery of our people, their struggle for Karabakh, and the achievement, protection, and strengthening of our state independence as our great historical achievement.
The speakers drew attention to the socio-political processes of that time and spoke about the reasons for the tragedy, the knowledge of our people during those difficult days, the struggle for freedom, and their self-sacrifice. It was noted that the events of January 20 are the proudest and most honorable day in the history of our people. Our people once again showed the world that no force can stop their struggle for independence and freedom. The martyrs of January 20 will always be remembered with respect. Today, the souls of all our martyrs are happy for the liberation of Karabakh from occupation, for ensuring of the territorial integrity of independent Azerbaijan, and the proud waving of our tricolor flag throughout the country.
