Another co-author of the book is Ivan Meznik, a professor of mathematical sciences at the Brno University of Technology in the Czech Republic
The book is designed as a basic course of mathematical modelling in economics. Intended for students of master’s programs in economics wishing to get deeper knowledge of causal nature of economic relationships. Regarding the use of a large spectrum of mathe¬matical tools it me also be viewed as an introduction to mathematical economics. Chap¬ter 1 briefly reviews mathematical concepts and methods employed in the subsequent chapters. Demands of mathematics does not exceed current standards of engineering mathematics. The following topics are covered: demand and supply, revenue, cost, profit, elasticity, production, utility, optimization, national income and dynamic analysis. The book contains illustrative examples in the explanatory parts and an extensive amount of examples and applications in the chapter Miscellaneous problems. The style of writing respects current trends in didactics. Each chapter begins with the list of topics and is concluded by a summary, questions for self-assessment and the problems to solve.
