An event was organized at the Institute of Economics of the Ministry of Science and Education on the occasion of May 28 - Independence Day and Eid al-Adha. The Institute's management and employees of departments participated in the event.
Opening the event with an introductory speech, the Director General of the Institute, Professor Nazim Muzaffarli, congratulated the employees on the occasion of the significant holidays and wished them success in their scientific activities. In his speech, the Director General emphasized that May 28 - Independence Day holds a special place in the history of the Azerbaijani people. He noted that the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, established in 1918, was an important embodiment of the traditions of freedom and statehood of our people.
N. Muzaffarli noted that despite the fact that the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic had been operated for only 23 months, it has left indelible marks in our history of national statehood and made significant contributions to the formation of the principles of democratic governance. He drew attention to the fact that modern Azerbaijan is the political and spiritual successor of that state.
Young researcher Javanshir Burhanzade and leading researcher Tanriverdi Pasha, who delivered keynote speeches at the event, provided detailed information about the history of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, its activities, and the role it played in the development of modern Azerbaijani statehood.
The speakers said that the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic went down in history as the first democratic republic in the East. During the republic, the establishment of a parliament, granting women the right to vote, the formation of a national army, and reforms implemented in the field of education constituted an important stage in the history of our statehood.
In the speeches also touched upon the political, economic and social reforms implemented in Azerbaijan during the years of independence, the development of national thinking and the strengthening of statehood traditions. It was noted that today Azerbaijan is further strengthening its position in the international arena as one of the strong and influential states in the region.
At the end, the Institute's leadership once again congratulated the event participants on the holiday and wished our people peace, prosperity, and sustainable development (economics.org.az).
