On May 18, 2026, held the next permanent scientific seminar of the Institute of Economics of MSE.
At the seminar, chaired by the Executive Director, Associate Professor Famil Rustamov, the head of the Institute's library, Doctor of Philosophy in History Shafag Islamova, delivered a report on "Digital Transformation of Libraries". The scientific researcher prepared a monograph based on her research on this topic.
The speaker spoke about the adaptation of libraries to the digital environment in the context of socio-economic changes, their multifaceted functions, innovative areas of activity, artificial intelligence, copyright protection, cybersecurity, and other relevant issues. She spoke about the work done in Azerbaijan to adapt libraries to the digital environment, the creation of digital libraries in the fields of science and education, library-information systems in different countries, and the organization of modern electronic library work in international practice. She emphasized that there are about 1 billion digital readers of libraries in the world, that this number is growing at an increasing pace, and it increasing in Azerbaijan too.
Sh. Islamova noted the current state, problems and prospects of digitization, innovations, use of artificial intelligence, information technologies, formation of an electronic book fund, digital services, and digitization of scientific heritage in general in our country.
