On April 27, 2026, held the next permanent scientific seminar at the Institute of Economics of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
At the seminar, chaired by Executive Director of the Institute, Associate Professor Famil Rustamov, head of department "Economic Problems of the Agricultural Sector", Doctor of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Yunus Sadigov delivered a report on "Lost Economy".
In the report, along with the development trends observed in the country's economy, spoke about the views on the untapped economic potential, opportunities for creating added value, and more effective utilization of these opportunities in non-oil sector. It was noted that more efficient use of economic resources, production, and investment opportunities is great importance for the development of non-oil sector, increasing employment, and expanding added value chains.
In the speech also touched upon issues such as improving the business environment, developing the competitive environment, inflation processes, directing bank loans to the real sector, diversifying the economy, development opportunities for the processing industry, structural features of the labor market, and forming added value chains. The speaker also brought to the attention of the seminar participants some of the results of a study conducted based on international experience on the assessment of unused economic potential and lost opportunities.
Held extensive scientific discussions around the report. Some of the approaches voiced in the speech sparked an exchange of views and scientific debates among the seminar participants. During the discussions, expressed various views on the theoretical and methodological foundations of the topic, the use of “lost economy” concept as an economic category, the possibilities of measuring unused potential, and the formation of more precise scientific approaches in this direction.
