Held a permanent scientific seminar of the Institute of Economics of the Ministry of Education and Science on January 26, 2026. The scientific seminar, chaired by Director General, Professor Nazim Muzaffarli, was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Honored Scientist Teymur Valiyev.
Corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Shahbaz Muradov shared his memories about Teymur Valiyev, characterized him as a well-known and prominent scientist in Azerbaijani economics, and particularly noted his contributions to the development of economics in our country.
He noted that Teymur Suleyman Valiyev was born on January 15, 1926 in the Agdam region. He studied at the Azerbaijan Institute of National Economy named after K. Marx in 1947-1951s. He was the second scientist in the republic that defended his doctoral dissertation in economics (1966).
In 1966-1971s, he was a vice-rector for academic affairs of the Azerbaijan Institute of National Economy named after D. Bunyadzade, in 1971-1992s, head of the Political Economy Department of the ASU, in 1977-1989s, was a vice-rector for academic affairs of the University, in 1992-2000s, again was a vice-rector for scientific affairs of the Azerbaijan University of Economics, and in 2000-2002s, he worked as a professor at the Department of Economics of the BSU. In 1983, he was elected a corresponding member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
Senior Researcher of the Department of "Theoretical Foundations of Economic Policy" of the Institute of Economics of the Ministry of Education, Doctor of Economic Sciences Seyfaddin Samandarov made a report on the scientist's life and his scientific activities. He noted that T. Valiyev was an author of up to 200 scientific research works.
Under his scientific leadership, were prepared more than 20 candidates of Ph.D. and Doctoral scientific degrees. For a long time, he headed the scientific school of political economy (economic theory) of Azerbaijan, and wrote fundamental monographs. In the directions of T. Valiyev's scientific research, serious scientific issues such as production relations, property category and its forms, object and subject of realization also occupy an important place.
One of the important scientific issues that T. Valiyev focused on was the objective study of the history of economic thought of our people. He set himself the noble scientific goal of revealing the economic ideas expressed in the works of our thinkers, who are famous for their universal values in history. The scientist, together with his colleagues, is one of the leading authors of two monographs dedicated to the history of Azerbaijani economic thought. One of them was published in Russian in 1987. The second book, written with his colleague, Associate Professor A. Hasanov and published in 1996, was guided by historical and logical principles, deepening economic ideas and illuminating the economic and social lifestyle of our people at various historical stages and the progressive evolutionary process at a high level. He was one of the editors and authors of numerous textbooks, including the first "Economic Theory" textbook in Azerbaijan (1995).
Other speakers - leading researcher, Ph.D. Firdovsi Shahbazov, senior researcher, Ph.D. Sevda Mikayilova - spoke about T. Valiyev's services in the development of economic science, in the preparation of highly qualified economists, and in the field of education and training (economics.org.az).
